August 9 – PM Shehbaz urges enhanced economic ties with China during a meeting with representatives of foreign companies and Chinese business people.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of strengthening Pakistan-China relations across multiple sectors, including agriculture, mining, IT, and infrastructure.
He expressed these views during a meeting with representatives from foreign companies operating in Pakistan, with a significant presence of Chinese businesspeople.
Describing the Pak-China friendship as stronger than the Himalayas and reaching new heights, he welcomed the large number of Chinese investors visiting Pakistan to explore new business opportunities in various industries.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that agriculture is a key pillar of Pakistan’s economy, emphasizing the need to fully tap into this sector’s potential and initiate new value-added services.
He pointed out that 60% of Pakistan’s population lives in rural areas and depends on agriculture for their livelihood, which requires modernization and enhancement.
Recalling his recent visit to the Chinese Agriculture and Research Centre, the Prime Minister shared that he was highly impressed by its scale and capabilities.
He announced the government’s decision to send 1,000 Pakistani students for refresher courses in agriculture to learn modern techniques and practices.
The Prime Minister set a goal of increasing Pakistan’s agricultural exports by an additional seven billion dollars.
He further emphasized that China could be a crucial partner in achieving this goal, and with mutual cooperation, both countries could successfully reach this target.
Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will focus on Business-to-Business (B2B) partnerships in agriculture, IT, and other sectors.
He also encouraged company representatives to engage in B2B agreements to fully benefit from CPEC and actively participate in the project.
