Pakistan PM Shehbaz orders routing 50% of public cargo via Gwadar during a meeting focusing on Chinese investments in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to ensure that 50% of all public sector cargo is transported inland via Gwadar port. This directive was given during a review meeting focused on Chinese investments in Pakistan, where discussions were held on enhancing cooperation in various sectors.

The meeting was briefed on a recent visit by a Chinese delegation, which met with representatives from different ministries. The visit resulted in significant progress in cooperation and investment in sectors such as trade, energy, agriculture, IT, communication, and infrastructure.

During the visit, the Chinese delegation also engaged with top leaders from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was highlighted that Chinese experts would assist in technology transfer, removing trade barriers, and boosting Pakistani exports.

The meeting discussed plans for organizing sectoral roadshows in Chinese cities to promote Pakistani products. Additionally, efforts are underway to engage Chinese experts in upgrading various sectors like electric vehicles and electro-medical devices.

Technology and Technical Training

The meeting was informed about a Chinese auto spare parts company’s progress in setting up a plant in Pakistan. Additionally, land leasing for special economic zones is being facilitated, and Pakistani students will receive agricultural training in China.

The Prime Minister emphasized equal opportunities for students from all provinces in this training. A committee, led by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, was established to oversee the transparent selection of students and researchers for this program.

The meeting was attended by several federal ministers and senior government officials who discussed various initiatives, including the timely completion of IT sector projects and measures to boost IT exports.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also chaired a meeting in Islamabad to review IT projects and progress towards increasing IT exports. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing IT Park project, which is expected to significantly enhance domestic IT exports.

The Prime Minister encouraged the use of mobile applications for government services, viewing it as crucial for achieving the target of $25 billion in IT exports. The meeting also discussed progress on the digital smart cities project in Islamabad.

The meeting highlighted a 30% increase in IT exports over the last five months, with significant student enrollment in IT skills programs and the launch of new incubation centers.

In a move towards modernizing governance, the Prime Minister mandated that all federal ministries and divisions switch to the E-Office system within two weeks. This is to move towards enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

The mandatory adoption of the E-Office system is seen as a major step towards a fully digital government, expected to improve service delivery, reduce corruption, and increase accountability in Pakistan.
