PM Shehbaz discusses regional situation with Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by phone with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday and conveyed Pakistan’s deep concerns over rising tensions in South Asia, triggered by India’s provocative conduct following the Pahalgam incident.
Shehbaz Sharif firmly rejected any attempts to link Pakistan to the incident without credible evidence and reiterated Pakistan’s proposal for an impartial, transparent, and internationally-led investigation to uncover the truth. He expressed openness to Malaysia’s involvement in such an international probe.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s consistent stance against terrorism, the prime minister noted the country’s frontline role in global counterterrorism efforts and the significant sacrifices it has made.
He pointed out that India’s actions are undermining Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations along its western border.
The Prime Minister stressed that it would be illogical for Pakistan to become entangled in such a controversy, particularly as the nation is emerging from a difficult economic situation and moving toward stability.
Both leaders also discussed the state of Pakistan-Malaysia relations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
In this regard, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his intention to undertake an official visit to Malaysia later in the year.
