PM reiterates unity and peace amid Indian aggression as he addressed the main ceremony of the Youm-i-Tashakkur in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to harnessing the spirit of national unity shown by the people of Pakistan in response to Indian aggression.
Speaking at the main Youm-i-Tashakkur ceremony at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad on Friday, the Prime Minister called for channeling this unity toward the nation’s development and progress, highlighting the collective resolve of the public and armed forces.
He praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their courageous efforts in decisively repelling the enemy and safeguarding the nation.
Reflecting on the events, he criticized India’s rejection of Pakistan’s transparent offer to investigate the Pahalgam incident and condemned its attack on innocent civilians, including children.
The Prime Minister recounted that Pakistan made the decision on the night of May 9 to respond to India’s aggression in a calculated and appropriate manner.
He emphasized that India’s perception of regional dominance was dismantled by Pakistan’s military response, with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) transforming India’s war ambitions into a sobering defeat.
Special tribute was given to the PAF for successfully integrating modern technologies that enhanced its operational strength.
He remarked that the PAF’s exceptional professionalism not only deterred adversaries but also bolstered the pride of Pakistan’s allies.
According to the Prime Minister, this victory marked a turning point for Pakistan, earning admiration and respect on the global stage.
Addressing foreign diplomats and partner nations, Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for their support in rejecting false Indian narratives and standing by Pakistan’s just position.
He specifically acknowledged the solidarity of Turkiye, China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iran, and extended appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in promoting peace and preventing a major regional conflict.
The Prime Minister stressed that while Pakistan had emerged victorious, its ultimate goal remained lasting peace.
He underscored that Pakistan had delivered a strong message to its adversary but sought regional harmony, advocating for peaceful coexistence and prosperity in South Asia.
He noted that the future of both India and Pakistan depends on whether they choose to be peaceful or contentious neighbors.
Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding preference for peace, he said that warfare only inflicts suffering on both nations’ populations.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Pakistan has endured immense losses due to terrorism, with over 90,000 lives lost and significant economic damage.
He called for dialogue between India and Pakistan to address unresolved issues, including Jammu and Kashmir and water sharing, warning that sustainable peace is impossible without resolving these core disputes.
He suggested that once these fundamental matters are settled, the two countries can collaborate on broader challenges such as combating terrorism.
The ceremony also included prayers for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.
A breathtaking fly-past by Pakistan Air Force jets was held as part of the event.
Patriotic songs were performed by Syeda Hadia Hashmi, Shabnam Majeed, and Sahir Ali Bagga.
The event was attended by members of the federal cabinet, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, heads of the armed forces, diplomats, media representatives, artists, athletes, and senior civil and military officials.
