Pakistan’s sesame exports to China surge by 180% in early 2025, highlighting the strong agricultural relations between both countries.
Pakistan’s sesame seed exports to China witnessed a remarkable 179.88% growth in the first two months of 2025, indicating a rising demand and strengthening agricultural trade ties between the two nations, stated Ghulam Qadir, Trade and Investment Counsellor at Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing.
According to data from China’s General Administration of Customs, Pakistan exported 22,740.445 metric tons of sesame seeds valued at $28.27 million to China in January and February 2025. This is a significant increase from the 5,997.744 metric tons worth $10.10 million exported during the same period in the previous year. This substantial growth underscores Pakistan’s growing presence in China’s sesame market, facilitated by improved product quality, streamlined trade operations, and rising consumer demand.
“Pakistan ranks among the leading exporters of sesame seeds to China, capitalizing on China’s expanding food sector and preference for premium agricultural products. Experts attribute this surge to Pakistan’s favorable climate for sesame cultivation, adoption of advanced farming techniques, and strengthened trade facilitation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” Qadir added.
Rakesh Pal, a key sesame seed exporter from Pakistan to China, told China Economic Net that this increase results from Pakistan’s continuous efforts to enhance agricultural exports by meeting global quality standards and ensuring better market access. Trade officials and representatives stress the need to further leverage China’s vast consumer market to expand exports of sesame, mangoes, and other high-value agricultural products.
Industry analysts anticipate continued growth in Pakistan’s sesame seed exports to China, fueled by the increasing demand for sesame-based products like oil, snacks, and confectionery. This positive trade trend aligns with broader initiatives to enhance agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China, reinforcing their strong economic partnership.
As the world’s largest importer of sesame seeds, China presents a lucrative opportunity for Pakistan’s agricultural sector. The country’s growing foothold in this market promises substantial benefits for farmers, exporters, and stakeholders in the industry.
