“Pakistan is blessed with precious stones, among which the bright colored emeralds have become a feverish treasure for European collectors more than 2,000 years ago. We hope to make use of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as an international platform to expand the popularity of Pakistani gems so that Chinese consumers can also have high-end consumption experience,” explained Ms. Miao Lan, an CIIE exhibitor in an interview
As the Coordinator for Middle East and Asia Pacific, All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (APCEA), Miao is committed to promoting Pakistan’s high-quality products’ exports to China and other countries. This is her first time as an exhibitor at CIIE and she has been working for three years to get the most perfect display of Pakistani gems.
The Pakistani flag inlaid with emeralds and diamonds, the golden Chinese characteristic element “Ruyi” embellished with gems, and the glittering topaz necklace on the booth have become a unique and eye-catching sight of the Expo.
In contrast to many other exhibitions, CIIE attracts delegations from various professional industries for on-site discussions, exchanges and cooperation. One visitor, Zhou, who works in jewellery design, introduced herself as someone who used to buy rubies and sapphires from Sri Lanka. The Pakistani gems on display caught her attention, satisfied her with both quality and price, and opened up a new channel for her to purchase gems.
Statistics show that, in recent years, China’s diamond jewelry industry has developed rapidly, growing into the second largest jewelry diamond consumption market in the world. APCEA of Rough Un-Polished Precious and Semi-Precious Stones and Macau-China Diamond and Gem Exchange reached an exclusive strategic cooperation agreement in 2021. “Zhuhai Hengqin is building a world-class rough diamond trading center. Combined with Macao’s unique advantages as a world tourism and leisure center, the gem of Pakistan has unlimited development potential in China.”
China and Pakistan have complementary strengths in the gemstones collaboration. “In response to a series of pain points facing gem exports, we are improving a series of industrial chain processes from gem exploration, mining, processing, transportation and sales. The governments of the two countries strongly support cross-border e-commerce, and we are considering launching high-quality gem products from Pakistan on e-commerce platforms, ”added Miao’s partner Ms. Fu.
