Pakistan’s EO-1 Satellite set for launch from China signifying SUPARCO’s commitment to advance Pakistan’s space technology.
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the upcoming launch of Pakistan’s Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite, which is scheduled for January 17, 2025, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC) in China.
This milestone launch demonstrates SUPARCO’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s space science and technology capabilities, showcasing the country’s expertise and innovation in the field.
The EO-1 satellite, developed locally, marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s space technology sector. It is expected to improve the nation’s ability to monitor and manage natural resources, respond to natural disasters, ensure food security, and contribute to economic growth through data-driven decision-making and sustainable development.
The satellite will provide crucial support for various sectors in Pakistan. Furthermore, in agriculture, it will facilitate precision farming by tracking crop health, assessing irrigation needs, forecasting yields, and helping food security efforts. Additionally, for urban planning, it will aid in monitoring infrastructure, managing urban growth, and assisting in city and regional planning.
In the fields of environmental monitoring and disaster management, the satellite will deliver timely information on floods, landslides, earthquakes, deforestation, and land erosion. It will also assist in the monitoring and conservation of natural resources, including minerals, oil, gas, glaciers, and water resources.
Moreover, the EO-1 satellite’s launch represents a key milestone in Pakistan’s space program. It is also expected to enhance the country’s technological capabilities and play a pivotal role in national development, aligning with the objectives of the National Space Policy.
