Pakistani students in China save elderly man’s life who suffered a medical emergency at a railway station.
Two Pakistani students from Gannan Medical University in China, Yousaf Khan and Muhammad Rafeeullah Jawaad, have been widely praised for their bravery and compassion after saving the life of an elderly man who suffered a medical emergency at a Shanghai railway station.
The incident took place in the early hours of February 7 at Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station. While traveling in the city, Yousaf and Jawaad noticed an unconscious elderly man lying on the ground. Realizing the gravity of the situation, they quickly approached him and found that he was unresponsive, not breathing properly, and had a faint pulse, with cyanotic lips indicating a critical condition.
Acting without hesitation, Yousaf immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, while Jawaad closely monitored the man’s condition. After four rounds of CPR, the elderly man gradually regained consciousness and started breathing again. The students stayed with him until an ambulance arrived and transported him to the hospital for further medical care.
Their quick and professional response drew admiration from bystanders, police officers, and medical personnel at the scene. Their courage, composure, and medical skills were widely acknowledged as instrumental in saving the man’s life, according to a report.
Yousaf and Jawaad, belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan and are currently pursuing their bachelor’s degrees in clinical medicine at Gannan Medical University in southern China.
Reflecting on the incident, Jawaad credited their university’s emphasis on ethics and morality for inspiring them to help others. He noted that their medical training had equipped them with the skills necessary to administer first aid in emergencies. Yousaf, who performed CPR for the first time during the incident, expressed pride and fulfillment in saving a life, stating that it is the sacred duty of every doctor and medical student to act in such situations without hesitation.
