Pakistan’s aviation authorities have temporarily closed certain airspace sections within the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs) for a month-long period.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) announcing the closure of designated airspace areas in both cities.
The NOTAM specifies that from May 1 to May 31, 2025, select airspace portions will remain off-limits daily from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.
Aviation officials attributed the move to security considerations.
Despite the closure, commercial flights will continue using alternate paths, with air traffic controllers ensuring safe and uninterrupted flight operations.
Officials assured that regular flight schedules would largely remain unaffected by the partial airspace restrictions.
Separately, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancelled six round-trip flights between Islamabad, Gilgit, and Skardu.
The cancellations include PK-601, PK-603, and PK-605 to Gilgit, PK-451 to Skardu, and PK-602 and PK-604 returning from Gilgit to Islamabad.
In a related security update, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) swiftly responded to an incursion on the night of April 29/30, compelling four Indian Rafale jets to retreat while patrolling within Indian airspace over Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as reported by the state-run APP.
