Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 is scheduled to be inaugurated on 4 February, 2022, with less than 90 days to go. China has been importing huge quantity of materials for this purpose. And it is expected that the import of all kinds of materials for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games will reach a peak in the fourth quarter.
“Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 has brought great opportunities and vitality to the world sports industry especially in the post-pandemic era. Pakistani sports goods exporters can greatly promote their exports to China if they have the opportunity to learn more about advanced sports goods in China and the rest of the world.” Mr. Malik Zulfiqar Ahmad, Chairman of Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PSGMEA) told Gwadar Pro recently, “in recent years, Chinese government has vigorously advocated national fitness. It is necessary to strengthen the awareness and understanding of Pakistani sporting goods manufacturers to the Chinese sports goods market.”
According to PBS, the exports of sports goods witnessed an increase of 16.81 percent during the first three months of current financial year (2021-22) as compared to the exports of corresponding period of last year. Mr. Malik Zulfiqar Ahmad believes that in addition to the worldwide recognition of the quality of sporting goods in Pakistan, the normalization of the epidemic has played a significant role in promoting the resumption of exports. “Pakistani sporting goods manufacturers and exporters should make full use of platforms such as China International Import Expo (CIIE) to showcase their brands and target China’s huge market.”
In recent years, ice and snow sports have given birth to the “tuyere” of China’s white economy. Northern Pakistan is rich in ice and snow resources and has great potential to popularize ice and snow sports and develop the ice and snow industry. However, the production technique of ice and snow sports products in Pakistan is not mature and there is still large development space compared with traditional cricket and hockey products.
Mr. Malik Zulfiqar highlighted that, “we have placed orders for ice hockey machine and other manufacture materials from China. With the arrival of professional equipment and Chinese technicians, Pakistan’s ice hockey manufacturing technology can be improved, and we look forward to seeing the country usher in a new era of hockey manufacturing.”
“Export Processing Zones has provided incentives for us to manufacture goods and enhanced the volume of exports as well. Pakistani government is striving to create an enabling environment for investors to initiate ambitious export-oriented projects in the zones.” Mr. Malik Zulfiqar Ahmad further explained that, “high priority has been given to the construction of the 9 special economic zones under the framework of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). In this regard, Pakistan and China can set up joint ventures in sports goods to tap the great potential of the two countries and even the world market.”
