Pakistan shots down Indian drone near Lahore airport, preventing a major incident in the city on Thursday morning.
An Indian drone packed with explosives was intercepted just moments before it could strike Lahore Airport’s main terminal early Thursday morning, effectively preventing a major incident.
Lahore police sources also revealed the drone was approximately six feet long and operated remotely from across the border.
According to officials, the drone appeared to be on a reconnaissance mission targeting sensitive installations. Its system was jammed and it was brought down, but not before it triggered a loud explosion near the airport premises.
Following the crash, security forces quickly secured the site and began a thorough investigation into the incident. Police confirmed that drone fragments were collected and sent for forensic testing to determine the device’s make and origin.
The law enforcement and security agencies swiftly arrived at the crash location and initiated a preliminary inquiry. Due to the breach, air traffic over Lahore and Sialkot was temporarily suspended to ensure public safety. The aviation department issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) suspending seven flight paths above Lahore until noon as a precaution.
Authorities are treating the drone incident as a significant violation of Pakistani airspace, with potential consequences for regional security under review. Meanwhile, debris from another suspected Indian drone was discovered in agricultural land in Peer Jhand village, Gujrat.
