Pakistan, Saudi Arabia vow to strengthen defense and security cooperation as PM Shehbaz Sharif along with senior government officials is on a visit to Saudi Arab.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment on Thursday to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing defense and security cooperation, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in tackling regional security challenges.
During a bilateral meeting in Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman discussed expanding economic, trade, investment, energy, and defense cooperation. The prime minister, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, highlighted Pakistan’s strong ties with the kingdom.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with their growing economic partnership and Saudi Arabia’s commitment to increasing investments in Pakistan, contributing to its economic growth. They also deliberated on regional and geopolitical developments, agreeing to collaborate closely to promote peace, stability, and prosperity.
The Saudi Crown Prince acknowledged the valuable role of the Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia and expressed willingness to enhance their welfare. Both sides stressed the need to deepen cultural exchanges, educational collaboration, and people-to-people ties.
In a separate meeting, Saudi Minister for Investment Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Faleh conveyed Saudi Arabia’s keen interest in strengthening economic ties with Pakistan. Discussions with PM Shehbaz Sharif and the Saudi economic leadership centered on attracting investments and fast-tracking joint projects in key sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating Saudi investors, highlighting Pakistan’s strategic advantages and investment-friendly environment. He encouraged Saudi businesses to explore opportunities in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and technology under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Saudi officials expressed strong interest in accelerating investment projects through institutional collaboration.
Upon arriving in Madina Munawara, the prime minister was welcomed by Governor Prince Salman bin Sultan Al-Saud. He will pay respects at Roza-e-Rasool (PBUH), offer prayers at Masjid-e-Nabwi, and pray for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.
