Pakistan reiterates commitment to trans-Afghan railway project, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasizing its transformative impact on regional trade.
Speaking at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent, he stressed that both nations would take collaborative measures to implement this crucial project. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Karachi and Gwadar ports as key centers for economic activities, trade, and logistics. He noted that Pakistan’s National Logistics Cell (NLC) is already facilitating trade with Central Asian countries through Afghanistan.
Additionally, he announced that Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed in principle for NLC to partner with its Uzbek counterpart to establish a joint transport company, as per an official press statement. Discussing broader cooperation, the Prime Minister acknowledged Uzbekistan’s strong interest in Pakistan’s mining and mineral industry. He emphasized that joint ventures with Uzbekistan could significantly contribute to the sector’s development.
He also pointed out potential collaborations in IT, agriculture, textiles, tourism, and other fields. He stated that the business forum would serve as a key platform for advancing shared economic objectives as he expressed optimism.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev remarked that Pakistan and Uzbekistan are economic partners rather than competitors. He underlined the vast opportunities for collaboration across various industries. The Uzbek leader assured full support to Pakistani investors and emphasized that both nations could benefit from each other’s expertise in sectors such as mining, energy, pharmaceuticals, and textiles.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed that Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations would be taken to new heights through strengthened economic cooperation.
