Pakistan launches largest Biomethane Gas project in Karachi, as a cleaner alternative to natural gas and renewable energy source.
The first phase of Pakistan’s largest biomethane gas project, the Biogas Power Generator, was inaugurated in Gadap district, Karachi, the country’s economic center, on Monday.
Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh, praised the project as a major step toward clean and eco-friendly energy.
He explained that the plant, developed by Bio Waste Energy Ventures, would generate biomethane gas from cow and buffalo dung.
The project is set to raise awareness in the dairy industry about the benefits of extracting usable gas from dung and is expected to provide economic stability while creating new job opportunities.
Biomethane, also known as renewable natural gas, is a cleaner alternative to natural gas and can be used in various sectors, including households, industries, and transportation.
Waqas Mohsin, CEO of Bio Waste Energy Ventures, shared that the plant would produce 23,000 cubic meters of biomethane gas and 4-5 MW of electricity daily.
In addition to gas production, the project will manufacture bricks from heat and ash by-products and process 380 tons of bio-waste daily. All water used in the facility will be recycled to ensure sustainability.
Qamar reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for such initiatives, mentioning financial assistance, including KIBOR subsidies, for dairy farmers involved in biomethane projects through the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF).
Khizar Pervez, CEO of SEDF, along with other investment officials, attended the ceremony.
