Tensions between Pakistan and India have surged to alarming levels, resulting in missile strikes, aerial assaults, and cross-border attacks. This military standoff has raised serious concerns about a potential wider conflict erupting in South Asia.
Following what Pakistan called cowardly Indian strikes carried out around midnight on Saturday, Islamabad released a video showing the launch of its Fatah-1 ballistic missile, reportedly targeting India’s Udhampur airbase. While India claimed to have intercepted the attack, Pakistan insists it inflicted damage on Indian airbases and a brigade headquarters. In retaliation, the Pakistani military initiated “Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos,” deploying Fateh missiles to strike various Indian military installations near the border. Pakistan further accused India of launching missile attacks on three Pakistani airbases, including Nur Khan near Islamabad. India has not officially responded to these allegations.
These developments follow earlier Indian air raids, which New Delhi said were in response to a deadly militant attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam last month. Islamabad has denied any role in the attack, deepening the standoff. Both sides have exchanged accusations over cross-border missile launches, artillery fire, and drone operations. According to Pakistani sources, Indian strikes have caused 36 casualties, while Indian reports suggest 16 fatalities due to Pakistani shelling. The violence has intensified along the Line of Control, where territorial disputes remain unresolved.
Despite the heightened hostilities, neither side has shown visible intent to pursue diplomatic channels to ease tensions. While global actors have appealed for calm and restraint, the risk of a broader military confrontation remains high as the conflict shows no signs of abating.
