At the 2nd Hainan International Tropical Food Supply Chain Expo 2024, Acting Consul General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, Sardar Muhammad, emphasized Pakistan’s vital role as a key partner in food security and trade relations with China.
In his speech titled “Further Deepening China-Pakistan Food Trade in the Context of The Belt and Road Initiative,” Muhammad highlighted Pakistan’s significant agricultural contributions, noting its global ranking as the 5th largest producer of cotton and sugarcane, 6th in wheat and dates, and 9th in rice. He also underscored Pakistan’s position as China’s second-largest rice supplier. These factors, he said, make Pakistan a critical partner in enhancing food security and trade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Muhammad emphasized the vast potential for further collaboration in the food trade between China and Pakistan, stating that deeper cooperation would help meet rising food demands while promoting regional stability and economic growth. He encouraged stakeholders to take advantage of Pakistan’s agricultural strengths and explore investment opportunities in the country’s food and agriculture sectors.
In his media interactions, Muhammad reiterated Pakistan’s importance in global agriculture and expressed hopes that the expo would attract more businesspeople to the Pakistani pavilion. He believed this would provide a first-hand experience of the quality of Pakistani products and facilitate increased trade and joint ventures between the two nations.
After the ceremony, Sardar Muhammad visited the Pakistani Pavilion, which covered 72 square meters and showcased a variety of food products, such as premium rice, sesame seeds, and packaged foods. The pavilion also featured a Truck Style Karak Tea station, offering freshly brewed tea and traditional Pakistani cookies, which attracted numerous visitors and showcased Pakistan’s culinary and cultural heritage.
