Pakistan, Iran pledge swift progress on Gas Pipeline Project as Prime Minister is on a official visit to Iran.
Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project through mutual dialogue, during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s intent to enhance bilateral trade and deepen economic cooperation with Iran.
He expressed gratitude to the Iranian leadership for their support during Pakistan’s recent tensions with India, including Tehran’s willingness to mediate for regional peace.
The Prime Minister also briefed President Pezeshkian on India’s expansionist policies, warning that they pose a threat to regional stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to maintaining the ceasefire.
Highlighting the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and religious connections between the two nations, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran.
He stressed that terrorism is a serious threat to the region and called for enhanced cooperation between the two countries to counter external forces fueling instability.
Sharif also emphasized the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of its people and relevant UN Security Council resolutions to ensure lasting regional peace.
President Pezeshkian welcomed Prime Minister Sharif and his delegation and assured him of Iran’s efforts to support peace and stability in the region.
Both leaders agreed that a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is essential for broader regional security and development.
Prime Minister Sharif strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, denouncing its aggressive policies and calling for a two-state solution as per UN resolutions.
He invited President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan at a convenient time in the near future.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Iran comes at the invitation of President Pezeshkian and he is accompanied by key figures including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, Federal Ministers Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Attaullah Tarrar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Sharif received a guard of honor at the presidential palace, followed by formal talks between the two delegations led by their respective heads.
