Pakistan, China to boost maritime cooperation as they both reiterated their shared goal of building maritime community with shared future.
Pakistan and China have decided to sustain regular communication and enhance coordination on maritime policy matters, while further advancing both their bilateral and multilateral engagements in the maritime domain.
These discussions took place during the Fifth Round of the Pakistan-China Maritime Cooperation Dialogue, held on Tuesday in Beijing, as per a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The meeting was jointly presided over by Pakistan’s Additional Secretary for Asia-Pacific, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, and Hong Liang, Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both sides acknowledged the positive developments achieved since the last round of dialogue. They held comprehensive talks on areas including maritime security, the blue economy, marine scientific research, and environmental protection, arriving at significant common ground.
It was reaffirmed that maritime cooperation is a key element of the Pakistan-China All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, with both nations reiterating their shared goal of building a maritime community with a common future.
The two delegations also agreed to convene the Sixth Round of the Maritime Cooperation Dialogue in Pakistan at a mutually convenient time next year.
