Pak-China to boost security cooperation, plan joint Police exercises in Xinjiang as a Interior Minister met with a Chinese led delegation.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with a high-ranking Chinese delegation led by Minister for Political and Legal Affairs, Chen Mingguo. Upon their arrival at the Ministry of Interior, Minister Naqvi warmly welcomed the delegation. The meeting resulted in an agreement to enhance cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, cross-border collaboration, anti-smuggling, and anti-narcotics initiatives.
Discussions also focused on Pakistan-China relations, particularly in connection with Xinjiang, and other topics of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to hold joint police and paramilitary forces exercises in Gilgit-Baltistan or Xinjiang, while training for Gilgit-Baltistan police officers at the Xinjiang Police Academy was also confirmed.
The meeting further emphasized the need for comprehensive measures to address terrorism, which both countries view as a global issue. Additionally, a Pakistani delegation, led by the Federal Secretary of Interior, will soon visit Xinjiang to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Chinese Minister Chen Mingguo extended an invitation to Minister Naqvi to visit Xinjiang.
Minister Naqvi highlighted Xinjiang’s critical role in Pakistan’s relationship with China, noting the shared 600-kilometer border and Xinjiang’s significance in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He stressed Pakistan’s goal of completely eliminating smuggling of drugs, arms, and other goods, and expressed optimism that the delegation’s visit to Xinjiang would pave the way for enhanced cooperation.
Minister Chen Mingguo expressed his desire to strengthen ties with Pakistan across various sectors. He acknowledged that terrorism is a shared challenge, noting Xinjiang’s long-standing struggle with the issue, and suggested that Pakistan could learn from Xinjiang’s counter-terrorism experience. The meeting also reaffirmed discussions on the importance of Pakistan-China relations and mutual interests, particularly with Xinjiang.
The Chinese delegation included the Deputy Secretary of Xinjiang’s Committee of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs, the Executive Director General of Police, and the Vice President of Xinjiang Police Academy. Pakistani officials present included Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha, Special Secretary Interior Waqas Ali Mahmood, and Additional Secretary Interior Nazar Muhammad Buzdar.
