Pak China Ministers Agree on 4 Mega Projects ML-1, M-6, M-9, KKH & Babusar Top Tunnel by holding detailed discussions.
On the eve of the International Transport Conference, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, met with China’s Transport Minister, Mr. Li Xiapeng, in Beijing. Both ministers held in-depth discussions and agreed on four major projects to be completed in Pakistan, including the ML-1, M-6, and M-9 projects, as well as the second phase of the Karakoram Highway (KKH). This phase will include the construction of roads from Kaghan to Naran, Jhal Khand, Babusar Top, and a tunnel connecting to the Karakoram Highway.
During the meeting, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, who also oversees Privatization and the Board of Investment, and Minister Li Xiapeng discussed various financial models, including public-private partnerships. The completion of several missing links in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, such as the Sukkur to Hyderabad and Karachi Motorway, and the ML-1 Railway project from Seaport to Multan and Lahore, were also highlighted. The Karakoram Highway stretch from Thakot to Raikot and the Kaghan-Naran Highway will also be developed as part of this collaboration.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan expressed his gratitude to China for its cooperation and hoped the International Transport Conference would yield further benefits for Pakistan’s development. Chinese Transport Minister Li Xiapeng assured Pakistan of his department’s full support moving forward. The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, and senior officials from both countries.
