ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and China’s key border crossing Khunjerab Pass has been closed for the next four months amid extreme weather conditions at the border located around 4,693m above sea level.
All kinds of public traffic, trade, and tourism will remain suspended effect until March 30, 2025, as part of a bilateral agreement between Islamabad and Beijing.
The border crossing between ‘Iron Brothers’ remained suspended due to extreme winter weather, including snowfall, making transportation and trade activities grueling, considering heavy snowfall.
The annual closure of Khunjerab Pass is routine things, with trade and crossing remained operational from April 1 to November 30 to accommodate trade, tourism, and travel.
Khunjerab Pass is located at pinacle of the Karakoram Highway, connecting Kashgar in China to Islamabad in Pakistan joint. It remains highest paved international border crossing and a key point on the Karakoram Highway, completed in early 80s.
