Olympics Day 6: Two golds for China as they continue to top the medal tally with 11 Gold medals.
The sixth day of the Paris Olympics featured remarkable performances and achievements on Thursday, August 1.
China’s Liu Yukun clinched gold in the men’s 50-meter rifle 3 positions shooting final. Liu, who set the world record earlier this year, achieved a final score of 463.6 points, narrowly defeating Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish by 2.3 points. This victory marked China’s fourth gold in shooting at the current Games.
World record holder Yang Jiayu secured China’s first athletics gold at the Paris Olympics by winning the women’s 20km race walk with a seasonal best of 1:25:54. This win was China’s fourth Olympic gold in the women’s 20km race walk and contributed to China’s 11 gold medals in Paris so far.
In women’s singles tennis, Zheng Qinwen made history for China by defeating Iga Świątek, the Polish world No. 1 and top seed. Zheng will compete for the gold medal against Wimbledon semifinalist Donna Vekic of Croatia on Saturday, August 3.
In mixed doubles tennis, the Chinese duo Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen made a stunning comeback to defeat Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands, advancing to the final.
China’s mixed doubles badminton team, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, delivered a dominant performance against Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, winning 21-14, 21-15. They will face South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun in the final for the first badminton gold medal.
