OIC-COMSTECH, WUACD sign MoU to advance scientific cooperation during a ceremony held in Indonesia.
The Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH) and the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance collaboration in science and technology.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, Rector of Airlangga University and President of WUACD, during a ceremony held at Airlangga University in East Java, Indonesia.
The agreement is intended to boost cooperation in the areas of science, technology, and higher education among member states of the OIC.
It focuses on promoting joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and technological innovation in crucial scientific fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Health Sciences, and Engineering. Particular priority will be given to supporting scholars and researchers from less-represented OIC nations, especially in Africa.
Under the MoU, the two organizations will provide short-term technician training programs lasting three to four weeks, along with longer-term research fellowships spanning six to twelve months.
Selected fellows will be hosted at Airlangga University and mentored by its faculty, while OIC-COMSTECH will support the process by facilitating award distribution and visa arrangements.
Representatives from both organizations hailed the MoU as a strategic step toward enhancing scientific capacity, promoting innovation, and supporting sustainable development across the Islamic world.
