ISLAMABAD – In a significant step toward fostering sustainable development and technological cooperation, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted the “NUST–SIEF Green and Low Carbon Summit” at its main campus. The event was jointly organized by NUST, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), and the Sino-International Entrepreneurs Federation (SIEF), China.

The summit convened leading experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs from both China and Pakistan, creating a platform for high-level dialogue on green innovation, low-carbon development, and environmentally sustainable technologies.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation & Commercialisation (RIC) at NUST, highlighted the university’s strong research ecosystem and outlined its collaborations with Chinese academia and industry. He stressed the importance of enhancing partnerships in clean technologies, sustainable industrial practices, and low-carbon growth.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Dr. Huanzheng Du spoke on the transformative role of green technologies as catalysts for economic growth. Another key presentation by Academician Xiong Jian focused on net-zero carbon building technologies and future energy systems. Dr. Chen Yang discussed the circular economy and the need to translate research into industrial application, while Dr. Jin Jianhai explored scalable green transformation models for small and medium enterprises.

The summit also included a vibrant panel discussion featuring advisors, scholars, and industry professionals from both countries, focusing on bilateral collaboration in clean energy solutions and sustainable industrial development.

The event concluded with a guided tour of the National Science and Technology Park (NSTP) and the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), where the Chinese delegates were introduced to advanced laboratories, cleantech demonstrations, and green innovation startups. Delegates expressed strong interest in forming future collaborations with NUST and its ecosystem of innovators.

The summit marked a major milestone in strengthening China-Pakistan cooperation in green technologies and sustainable development.
