The New Gwadar International Airport is scheduled to begin operations by the end of December, according to Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Acting Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).
During his visit, PAA officials highlighted the airport’s advanced features and its potential to drive business and investment opportunities in the region. Built with Chinese assistance, the 4F-grade airport is equipped to handle the largest civil aircraft, boasting a 3,658-meter-long, 75-meter-wide runway that sets new engineering standards.
The airport includes a spacious apron with five wide-body aircraft slots and provisions for extensive cargo operations, supported by a dedicated cargo shed and future expansion plans. It aims to address Gwadar’s connectivity challenges, facilitating modern airline services and boosting regional economic growth.
Positioned as a key transshipment hub for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the airport is expected to enhance trade links. Launched in 2013 under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), CPEC initially focused on energy, transport, and industrial cooperation and has now expanded into agriculture and livelihood sectors.
