The New Gwadar International Airport is set to start operations as per the Federal Minister, Professor Ahsan Iqbal who announced this in Beijing stating it as a monument for Pakistan China friendship.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, announced that the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) is ready to be inaugurated, expressing optimism that it will become a significant hub for air transportation and a gateway connecting various regions in the future.
He noted that the New Gwadar International Airport is set to start operations, gifted by the Chinese government to the people of Pakistan, particularly the residents of Gwadar, symbolizes the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.
The minister highlighted the airport as a significant milestone and flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He expressed hope that, with the training Pakistani staff will receive in China, the airport will become a crucial hub for air transportation in future and a regional gateway.
Recognizing the importance of skilled manpower for the NGIA’s operation, he mentioned that 20 Pakistani officials have begun their Multi-disciplinary Training Courses in China.
The Training Program, conducted by the China Airport Construction Group, aims to transfer technical and practical knowledge to Pakistani staff, enabling them to manage airport operations independently. This human resource training initiative is designed to enhance the technical, administrative, and managerial skills of the NGIA staff, as reported by Chinese media.
The New Gwadar Airport as it starts its operations comprises 32 components, including a state-of-the-art runway, aprons, a terminal, and comprehensive civil, technical, electrical, and communication infrastructure and allied facilities.
He mentioned that the majority of officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, including those in operations, management, security, engineering, and mechanical work, have been participating in these courses in groups. The first phase of NGIA spans 4,300 acres and will accommodate both national and international passengers.
As New Gwadar International Airport is set to start operations, the second phase will be equipped to handle cargo. Upon completion, it will be the largest airport in Pakistan.
