On the afternoon of October 16, 2023, the Media Center of the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held briefing on green Belt and Road and green development.
Officials from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment briefed and answered questions from Chinese and international journalists. More than 140 journalists from 68 Chinese and international media attended the briefing.
According to Zhou Guomei, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, promoting the joint building of a green “Belt and Road” is an inherent requirement for practicing the concept of green development and promoting the building of ecological civilization, and is important for building a community of human and natural life.
Over the past 10 years, great progress has been made in building green “Belt and Road”, and the fruits of green and low-carbon development have benefited the world. Among the more than 230 BRI cooperation documents signed by China with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations, the joint building of the Green Silk Road is an important part.
According to Mr. Zhou, the establishment of BRI International Green Development Coalition, BRI Environmental Big Data Platform, Green Silk Road Envoys program and the Belt and Road South-South Cooperation Initiative on Climate Change will help relevant countries improve environmental management and climate change coping capabilities. In the future, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will adhere to green development while jointly building the “Belt and Road”, and play an active role in strengthening the leadership of the platforms, advancing practical cooperation, and promote mutual benefit and sharing.
Officials also answered questions from Chinese and International journalists on how to advance ecological and environmental protection cooperation along the “Belt and Road” and green development of BRI projects.
