Juneyao Air’s inaugural flight from Shanghai to Sydney successfully landed at Sydney Airport early Tuesday, officially launching the airline’s new Shanghai-Sydney route.
The airline plans to operate four weekly direct flights between Shanghai and Sydney, increasing to daily services during the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations.
While highlighting Sydney’s stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and dynamic business opportunities, Wang Junjin, Juneyao Air’s chairman, emphasized its appeal to Chinese travelers during a welcoming ceremony for the first flight at the airport.
Wang also stated that Juneyao Air will collaborate with key partners to offer unique products and services for passengers on this new route.
Stephen Mahoney, acting CEO of Destination NSW, noted that the new service not only strengthens Sydney’s business ties with Shanghai but also enhances connectivity across China and globally via Juneyao Air’s network.
Mahoney added that with China’s strong recovery as a top-performing visitor market for NSW, the region anticipates welcoming many more Chinese visitors in the years ahead.
Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton expressed pride in Sydney being Juneyao Air’s first Australian destination, reinforcing its role as a key gateway to China.
Charlton also pointed out the significance of the Chinese market for Sydney Airport, with Shanghai serving as a major gateway, and highlighted the positive impact this new route will have on the airport and its passengers.
