IMF chief hails China’s commitment to climate goals during a video link in the ESG Leaders Conference in Shanghai.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva praised China’s commitment to its climate goals on Wednesday, emphasizing the significant progress the country has made through effective policies.
Speaking at the 2024 ESG Global Leaders Conference via video link, she noted that China’s emissions trading scheme has facilitated the achievement of these objectives while also generating additional revenue.
Georgieva highlighted that the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) has successfully mobilized $46 billion to support climate initiatives among its member countries.
Launched in 2022, the RST aims to assist vulnerable nations in addressing climate change and related challenges.
She expressed gratitude to China for its contributions to the RST.
The 2024 ESG Global Leaders Conference, taking place in Shanghai from October 16 to 18, is attracting leaders from international organizations, industry, and environmental experts.
