Harbin’s tourism surges with 240-Hour visa-free policy as per official data.
Harbin, known as the “ice city” in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, has experienced a notable rise in foreign tourist arrivals, thanks to the implementation of a 240-hour visa-free transit policy, as reported by the city’s airport authorities.
Between January 1 and January 21, the airport processed 6,562 visa-free entries, representing 75.3 percent of the total foreign tourist arrivals during this period, according to official data.
In December, China introduced a significant relaxation of its visa-free transit policy, extending the duration of stay for eligible international visitors to 240 hours. This adjustment led to a 145 percent year-on-year increase in foreign tourists, showcasing the policy’s positive impact on boosting tourism in Harbin.
Authorities indicated that most of the foreign visitors benefiting from this policy were from Russia, the Republic of Korea, and Thailand.
