Govt forms committee to oversee Gwadar port operationalization. under the leadership of Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal.
The federal government has established a 13-member committee to oversee the implementation of the plan for activating Gwadar Port.
As per the notification issued by the cabinet division, the federal cabinet has approved the formation of the committee under the leadership of Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, to finalize the Gwadar Port Operationalization Plan.
The committee comprises key officials, including the Minister of Defense, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Minister of Commerce, and Minister of Communications. Additionally, the Secretary of Maritime Affairs, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Railways, Director General of NLC, Chairman of NHA, and Chairman of FBR are also part of the committee.
The notification states that the government is committed to expediting the operationalization of Gwadar Port.
The committee has been tasked with identifying and addressing various challenges hindering the port’s activation.
It will evaluate issues such as inadequate internal connectivity, insufficient financial incentives, and security concerns, formulating recommendations and an actionable plan to resolve them.
The committee also plans to organize an international conference in Islamabad to promote Gwadar Port and develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to attract global investment.
Additionally, the committee will monitor the implementation of the activation plan and devise a strategy to enhance diplomatic outreach, aiming to attract economic and trade interests from Central Asian republics and other countries.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee, which is required to submit its report to the cabinet within 30 days.
