In his detailed address at the Global South Think Tanks Forum, CMG President Shen Haixiong underscored the common history and aspirations of Global South nations, urging for enhanced collaboration in global governance. He emphasized the essential role of think tanks in fostering cooperation and creating a more equitable international order, stating, “We will actively build bridges and connections for dialogue, mutual learning, and mutual understanding between China and Global South countries.”
Developing a Prosperous World with Shared Future
The forum focused on the following three points:
Join hands for common development to promote modernization in Global South countries.
This focuses on embracing the the trend of open development by strengthening forward-looking research and sharing intellectual achievements by the thinktanks of Global South. This will further assist countries in discovering modernization pathways that align with their national contexts. Think tanks across the Global South advocate for enhanced economic and trade cooperation, promoting innovation exchanges and encouraging nations to identify mutually beneficial solutions. Consequently, by broadening the scope and depth of South-South cooperation, the goal is to support countries in their joint pursuit of development and prosperity, improve the well-being of their citizens, and share the advantages of growth.
Promote peace and security, uphold fairness and justice, and be true advocates of multilateralism.
Moreover, the principles of mutual respect among nations, non-interference, independence, and self-determination must be upheld in international relations. Each country should have the freedom to pursue its own development path that aligns with its national circumstances. Think tanks also advocate for the protection of these fundamental principles, promote South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, uphold fairness and justice, and ensure that all nations are treated equally, regardless of their size, strength, or wealth.
