First World Conference on classics to be held in Beijing focusing on themes of classical civilizations.
The inaugural World Conference on Classics, scheduled for Nov. 6-8 in Beijing, will gather global participants to engage in extensive discussions on themes surrounding classical civilizations.
With the theme “Classical Civilizations and the Modern World,” the event is co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China’s Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Greece’s Ministry of Culture, and the Academy of Athens, according to the conference secretariat.
The conference aims to create a platform for researchers and specialists in classical studies to explore the roots of human thought, extract wisdom from history, and examine the traditions of human civilization through a classical lens.
It seeks to establish a strong academic basis for cultural exchange, offer perspectives on addressing modern global challenges, and contribute new ideas for human advancement, thus promoting the Global Civilization Initiative and building a human community with a shared future.
The event invites representatives from numerous countries, international organizations, prominent experts, cultural figures, media, think tanks, and young leaders.
Participants will also engage in two high-level dialogues and several parallel forums.
Ahead of the event, foreign attendees will tour Shandong, Henan, and Sichuan provinces to experience China’s cultural openness and inclusivity.
Moreover, pther activities will include themed exhibitions on Chinese civilization’s origins, archaeology, classical studies achievements, and events centered on classical studies at universities.
