The inauguration ceremony of the Pakistan Overseas Chinese Legal Aid Center (Punjab) was held on Monday. The Legal Aid Center is a welfare organization established under the guidance, supervision, and support of the Chinese Consulate General in Lahore.
The center takes overseas Chinese as the object of assistance and provides public welfare legal services such as litigation and non-litigation, legal consultation, and popularization of legal knowledge to overseas Chinese who meet the requirements for assistance. The Legal Aid Center carries out its work following the principle of territorial jurisdiction primarily and personal jurisdiction as a supplement. Its logo pattern means “legal aid hand in hand, overseas Chinese heart to heart” and “uses the legal shield to protect legitimate interests.”
Pakistan ZOAO Law Firm will undertake legal aid, lawyers team building, aid system formulating, development planning of the center, and other main works. Before this, Mr. Peng Zhengwu, Acting Consul General of China in Lahore, issued the appointment certificate of “Legal Adviser of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lahore” to Mr. Cheng Deyong, Director of ZOAO Law Firm.
Congratulating the inauguration of the Pakistan Overseas Chinese Legal Aid Center (Punjab), Mr. Peng Zhengwu stressed that this move will be of historical significance for actively safeguarding the rights and interests of overseas Chinese. He made positive comments on the contributions made by Cheng Deyong and ZOAO Law Firm in safeguarding the interests of overseas Chinese over the past year and hoped that Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese organizations in Punjab would actively carry out various public welfare activities, unite and forge ahead, promote common development, and show the image of China and the Chinese people in the new era.
On the occasion, Mr. Cheng Deyong highlighted that in addition to the guidance, supervision, and guidance of the Consulate General, it is also necessary to give full play to the advantages of non-governmental forces and commercial mechanisms in developing legal aid. Non-governmental forces have the advantages of quick information, smooth communication, close contact, good mass foundation, etc. Cheng stated that “we advocate that more capable and willing overseas Chinese can participate in the Legal Aid Center in multiple ways to jointly build and share this public welfare platform to help more people in need. “
