‘Explore and Uplift Gwadar’ conference underscores China-Pakistan ties and the increasing importance of Gwadar in fostering regional growth.
The “Explore and Uplift Gwadar” conference took place on November 5, 2024, at the Gwadar Port Business Center, to underscore Gwadar’s growing importance as a business hub for Pakistan and a central component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),
The event attracted participation from government officials, diplomats, business leaders, experts, and media professionals, all discussing the advantages and development potential of Gwadar Port as a flagship CPEC initiative. Key areas of focus during the conference included the fisheries sector, shipping, real estate, and tourism in Gwadar.

Representatives from the Gwadar Development Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, as well as members of the business community from Karachi and Gwadar, were present at the conference.
During his address, Imran Ibrahim, Director General of Fisheries Balochistan, highlighted the vast potential for marine life and shrimp farming in Gwadar. He called for increased investment in the fisheries sector, emphasizing the region’s suitability for shrimp and fish industries.
Gwadar Development Authority Director General Shafaqat Shahwani presented a detailed development plan for Gwadar, outlining the challenges faced, such as access to water, electricity, and an effective sewage system.
Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong described Gwadar Port as a critical CPEC project and a key point for regional connectivity. He noted significant advancements in port operations, logistics, and agricultural partnerships between Chinese and Pakistani businesses. Facilities such as the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute, Desalination Plant, and Pak-China Friendship Hospital have improved local skills training, job creation, and living standards, according to Yang.
Yang expressed hope that the soon-to-open Gwadar International Airport would serve as a major regional hub, enhancing connectivity. He emphasized China’s ongoing commitment to “small and beautiful” projects aimed at improving local community welfare and urged Pakistan to bolster security measures in Gwadar.
The conference was organized jointly by Mass Human Resource Services and China Overseas Port Holding Company, with support from the Pakistan Navy Western Command, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, the Association of Builders And Developers of Pakistan, Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dimension Solution, and the All Pakistan Shipping Association.
