DASU Hydropower Project begins landmark excavation of dam foundation pit, the phase being crucial for this key water management project.
The DASU Hydro-power Project has officially begun excavating the dam foundation pit, marking a significant milestone in the construction of this important water conservancy infrastructure.
According to a statement from Energy China on Wednesday, this phase is crucial for the development of one of Pakistan’s key water management and energy projects.
The excavation work, covering an altitude range between 715.0 meters and 776.0 meters, is expected to involve the removal of over 1.22 million cubic meters of earth and rock.
Despite facing major setbacks, including a severe mudslide in 2022, the project team has successfully navigated these challenges by refining geological surveys and engineering strategies, implementing a stepped excavation plan to ensure steady progress.
Upon completion, the DASU Hydro-power Station will boast an installed capacity of 5,400 MW, significantly contributing to Pakistan’s energy supply and alleviating power shortages.
Beyond power generation, the project is set to create over 8,000 jobs, boost local industries, and drive economic growth in the region.
Additionally, the hydropower station will support Pakistan’s transition to green energy, fostering a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy landscape.
