Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has cautioned that unresolved water disputes could be viewed as a declaration of war.
In an interview, he emphasized that the fragile ceasefire could collapse if the water issue isn’t settled in the upcoming negotiations.
He said that Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes were acts of self-defense following India’s cross-border attacks on May 7.
Dar noted that comprehensive, long-term dialogue between the two nations is still pending.
He expressed Pakistan’s hope for laying the foundation of enduring peace and security that ensures mutual respect and dignity.
Identifying Kashmir as the main source of regional tension, Dar urged for the recognition of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan had no involvement in the Pahalgam incident last month and reiterated the country’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms.
Dar also acknowledged U.S. President Donald Trump’s support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism initiatives
