CPEC to continue to boost Pak-China cooperation, Prof Cheng, a senior research fellow stated while stressing the value of the flagship project.
Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, Professor Cheng Xizhong, stated that through the combined efforts of both nations, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will continue to move forward on the right path, playing a greater role in fostering peace and prosperity for both countries and the broader region.
Describing CPEC as a flagship initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Cheng emphasized its strategic value for China and Pakistan’s development. He noted that over the years, the two nations have advanced CPEC with deep political trust and practical cooperation, resulting in significant achievements.
Cheng highlighted that CPEC spans key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and industrial development, serving as a major driver of Pakistan’s economic growth while also enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
He cited concrete outcomes of CPEC, including improvements in Pakistan’s transportation systems, increased job creation, and more stable energy supply—all of which have earned widespread public support and appreciation in Pakistan.
Cheng criticized foreign attempts to sabotage CPEC, attributing such efforts to envy of the strong China-Pakistan partnership and a desire to destabilize regional peace and progress. However, he stressed that these disruptive actions are bound to fail.
He pointed out that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners whose friendship has stood the test of time, rooted in a strong political foundation. Both governments and their citizens have consistently supported each other and will collectively resist any attempt to hinder CPEC’s development.
Furthermore, Cheng asserted that CPEC is not a zero-sum venture but a model of win-win cooperation. It has not only opened new development avenues for Pakistan but also created a vital platform for broader economic collaboration between China and South Asia. He emphasized that such inclusive cooperation, built on shared interests, is resilient and difficult to derail.
He added that in today’s global context, peace and development remain the dominant themes, and mutually beneficial cooperation is widely sought after. Many countries acknowledge CPEC’s contribution to regional stability and support it against any acts of sabotage. According to Cheng, these global voices form a strong front against disruptive forces.
To safeguard the steady progress of CPEC, Cheng noted that both China and Pakistan have put in place a robust framework for cooperation and security. They have implemented concrete measures to manage risks, ensuring effective coordination across security, legal, and public spheres to deter sabotage attempts.
Cheng concluded that any move to obstruct CPEC contradicts the global push for progress and the collective will of the regional and international communities. He affirmed that such actions will be firmly resisted by the people of China and Pakistan and will ultimately be rejected by the broader global community.
