Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari stated on Monday that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port hold immense potential to transform Pakistan into a major hub for international trade while enhancing regional connectivity.
He emphasized that CPEC is a crucial pillar of Pakistan’s connectivity strategy and urged the government to give top priority to these projects, positioning Pakistan as a key gateway linking Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East.
Speaking at a joint session of Parliament, Zardari shared that his recent visit to China included productive discussions with Chinese leaders, during which he sought greater investment in CPEC to drive economic and regional integration.
He noted that both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic collaboration. He assured that the benefits of CPEC would be widespread, reaching all parts of Pakistan through various development initiatives. The president also underscored Pakistan’s enduring and strategic partnership with China, reiterating support for the one-China policy and pledging to further strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with Beijing.
Zardari stressed that robust domestic and regional connectivity is essential for Pakistan’s prosperity, highlighting the importance of developing a modern transport network, efficient roadways, and upgraded railway infrastructure.
Commending the government’s trade and economic policies, he called for diversifying exports by promoting value-added products, renewable energy, electric vehicles, and exploring new international markets.
