The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, highlighted the positive outcomes of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during a recent briefing. CPEC, a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has seen early successes in various sectors, including transport infrastructure, energy, and the development of Gwadar Port. According to Mao Ning, these achievements have significantly contributed to economic and social development as well as regional connectivity in Pakistan, fostering a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
Mao Ning emphasized the importance of CPEC as a pioneering project within the BRI and commended the joint efforts of both China and Pakistan. The spokesperson expressed the Chinese side’s readiness to collaborate with Pakistan in implementing the shared vision of leaders from both nations. The goal is to develop CPEC with a high-standard, people-centered, and sustainable approach, focusing on growth, improved quality of life, innovation, green development, and openness.
Official data indicates that CPEC has brought $25.4 billion in direct investment to Pakistan, leading to the creation of approximately 236,000 jobs. Furthermore, the corridor has facilitated the generation of 8,000 megawatts of electricity and the construction of 886 kilometers of the national core transmission grid. The spokesperson highlighted these accomplishments as tangible evidence of the positive impact of CPEC on the development of both countries, benefiting their respective populations.
