Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Monday that his country will formally join China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a massive global infrastructure and development program led by China.
Speaking during an interview at the Great Wall of China, Petro stated, “We’re going to sign the Silk Road,” referring to the historical name often associated with China’s ambitious international initiative.
He highlighted that Colombia aims to utilize the Belt and Road funding for advancing artificial intelligence projects and creating job opportunities for the youth.
Petro emphasized that this move signifies a significant advancement in strengthening ties between China and Latin America.
