COAS vows ‘swift, resolute’ response to any military misadventure by India as he observed the “Exercise Hammer Strike.”
Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Syed Asim Munir, on Thursday warned that any military provocation by India would be met with a “swift and resolute” response, as tensions escalate between the two nuclear-armed nations.
His remarks came during a visit to the Tilla Field Firing Ranges (TFFR) near Jhelum, where he observed “Exercise Hammer Strike,” a high-intensity training operation by the Mangla Strike Corps. The exercises were part of an effort to showcase Pakistan’s military readiness amid growing regional tensions.
The warning followed renewed friction after India accused Pakistan of involvement in a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22. In response, Pakistan reiterated its intention to strongly counter any hostile Indian actions.
Islamabad has firmly denied any role in the attack that killed 26 people. Since then, both countries have taken retaliatory steps, with India suspending a long-standing water treaty, halting visas for Pakistanis, and expelling military advisers. Pakistan responded with reciprocal actions.
General Munir, quoted by the military’s media wing, stressed that any aggression would be decisively countered, while reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to peace. He highlighted the army’s unwavering readiness to defend national interests under all circumstances.
He also praised the professionalism, fighting spirit, and high morale of the troops participating in the drills, calling them a true representation of the operational capability of the Pakistan Army.
The military explained that the exercise aimed to assess combat preparedness, integration of advanced systems, and coordination under near-real combat conditions.
According to the statement, the drill incorporated a wide range of advanced assets, including multirole fighter jets, combat aviation, long-range artillery, and modern field engineering techniques, to realistically simulate conventional warfare scenarios.
