CM Maryam invites Chinese companies to invest in Punjab SEZs as she arrived in Shanghai and received a warm welcome.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by a delegation, arrived in Shanghai as part of her ongoing visit to China, marking the third stop on her trip.
During the visit, she met with Zou Zongming, the Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai Committee, who gave her a warm welcome.
Their discussion centered on strengthening economic ties between Punjab and Shanghai, with both parties expressing a firm commitment to deepening their collaboration.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in several key sectors, including trade, investment, science, technology, and industry.
Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude for China’s support in providing educational and training opportunities for Pakistani students and professionals.
She also invited companies from Shanghai to invest in Punjab’s Special Economic Zones, designed to stimulate regional economic growth.
Recognizing Shanghai as a global hub for finance and trade, Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed interest in partnering with Shanghai companies in sectors such as automobiles, IT, semiconductors, and robotics. She acknowledged China’s crucial role in developing Pakistan’s IT sector, particularly in building expertise.
The Chief Minister noted that Pakistan’s IT industry is well-positioned to evolve in line with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision. She also reassured that the Punjab government is prepared to support the IT sector’s growth in partnership with Shanghai authorities.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that Pakistan and China have become closer over the years, particularly during the tenure of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, with major projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) fostering stronger ties.
She expressed a personal connection to China, highlighting the deep bond shared between the two nations.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned that after years of economic and political instability, Pakistan’s economy is now showing positive growth, with improving economic indicators.
She reassured that Chinese companies would be given priority and incentives to invest in Punjab, with a focus on fostering cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and public relations between the two regions.
In her remarks, she also emphasized that after a period of instability, Pakistan’s economy is on a path to growth, with encouraging economic prospects.
Deputy Secretary Zou Zongming reiterated Shanghai’s commitment to strengthening trade, investment, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges with Punjab.
He underscored the importance of people-to-people connections in building mutual understanding and advancing the strategic partnership.
