CM Maryam announces first Internet City in Lahore to foster technology and innovation.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled plans to establish the first “Nawaz Sharif Internet City” in Lahore, aiming to boost the growth of modern technology and IT education throughout the province.
While addressing the Anatolia Diplomacy Forum, Maryam Nawaz highlighted her administration’s commitment to education reform since taking office in 2024. She underscored Punjab’s critical role as the country’s largest province, noting that extensive reforms are underway, particularly in the education sector.
She explained that schools in Punjab are being modernized with advanced technology and special attention is being given to promoting girls’ education. So far, 50,000 scholarships have been awarded, with female students receiving half of them.
Announcing the upcoming launch of the Nawaz Sharif Internet City in Lahore, she described it as a hub for fostering technological innovation and IT learning. She also noted that academic syllabi are being revised to reflect global standards, with digital literacy forming a key pillar of government initiatives.
Maryam Nawaz further mentioned the recruitment of 30,000 teachers on a merit basis across Punjab and announced the start of teacher training programs to enhance educational quality. She emphasized that improving access to fair and timely justice is also a major part of her administration’s broader agenda.
In a separate engagement, CM Maryam Nawaz met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and First Lady Emine Erdoğan. President Erdoğan warmly welcomed her and expressed best wishes for Nawaz Sharif, asking about his health.
President Erdoğan expressed his intent to meet Nawaz Sharif soon, saying, “I will meet Nawaz Sharif soon, Insha’Allah.” Maryam Nawaz, in turn, conveyed Nawaz Sharif’s warm regards and thanked the Turkish leader for his invitation to the forum.
