KARACHI, Jun. 4 – “It is hoped that Pakistani young students can be the inheritors of China-Pakistan friendship, the enhancers of the development of China and Pakistan, to convey the friendship of ‘higher than the mountain, deeper than the sea and sweeter than honey’ in Chinese language,” highlighted Yang Yundong, Chinese Consul General in Karachi on June 2.
During the Karachi Division Final of the 22nd Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for International University Students jointly launched by the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi and Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi (CIUK), the Consul General spoke highly of the contribution made by CIUK in conducting Chinese education in Pakistan over the years and promoting China-Pakistan friendship. He added that the “Chinese Bridge” has played a positive role in promoting mutual learning among civilizations and people-to-people exchanges between China and other countries.
Addressing the occasion, Wang Jie, CEO of Bank of China Limited-Pakistan Operations, noted that as cooperation between China and Pakistan deepens in various fields, there is an urgent need for a group of cross-cultural talents fluent in Chinese to join various exchanges and construction. He stressed that “in the future, BoC will continue to deepen cooperation and exploration with CIUK in personnel exchange and cultural development, so as to jointly serve the cultural exchanges and local economic development of the two countries.”
Zhang Xiaoping, the Chinese director of CIUK and Muhammad Nasiruddin Khan, the Pakistani director of CIUK hoped the students would use the “Chinese Bridge” to jointly paint a beautiful vision of “one world, one family” and write a new chapter of China-Pakistan friendship.
The final is divided into four parts: self-introduction, knowledge contest, talent show and keynote speech, which is held via a combination of online and offline. Muskan Najam, an undergraduate student from the split 2+2 BS Co-training Program of the Chinese Language Major at the University of Karachi, won the first place in the final of the Karachi competition and will represent Pakistan in the final of the Chinese Bridge in China.
