Chinese scholar, Prof. Cheng Xizhong highlights Pakistan’s victory, Kashmir dispute while stressing on the growth of Pakistan’s standing at a global stage.
Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, emphasized that the most significant achievement for Pakistan in the recent conflict is the global community’s increased awareness that the Kashmir dispute lies at the heart of Pakistan-India relations. He asserted that sustainable peace in South Asia is only possible if the Kashmir issue is resolved first.
He noted that Pakistan gained multiple strategic victories during the recent confrontation with India. Notably, the Pakistan Air Force showcased outstanding aerial performance, establishing air dominance. With the use of early warning aircraft, Pakistan created an integrated aerospace information network that hampered India’s effectiveness in aerial combat, essentially leaving Indian forces disoriented.
Prof. Cheng highlighted that Pakistan’s missile defense system proved highly effective, as it successfully neutralized advanced Indian missiles using domestically developed systems, underlining the strength of its indigenous defense technology.
On the ground, Indian forces reportedly raised white flags at certain forward positions, which, according to Cheng, points to Pakistan’s advantage in land combat as well. The overall military conduct significantly boosted Pakistan’s stature and recognition on the global stage, enhancing its confidence and influence in diplomatic affairs.
Diplomatically, he said, Pakistan led the call for a ceasefire and responded positively to peace efforts by the United Nations and other countries. This active participation reflected Pakistan’s commitment to peace and its constructive approach to conflict resolution.
In terms of global public opinion, Cheng remarked that India’s narrative for starting the conflict has been discredited. As a result, India’s image has suffered internationally, while Pakistan has strengthened its relations with major global and regional powers, boosting its diplomatic standing.
He also emphasized that Pakistan’s actions were rooted in legitimate self-defense, whereas India was the aggressor. The international perception of justice favored Pakistan due to its restrained and lawful conduct during the conflict.
Lastly, Prof. Cheng criticized India’s rash behavior following the April 22 incident, in which India blamed Pakistan without evidence, escalated tensions, and cut off water supplies. In contrast, Pakistan’s call for an impartial international investigation has been welcomed globally, reinforcing its responsible and transparent approach.
