Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on Thursday during the Group of 20 (G20) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, to discuss China-Russia relations.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era is evolving towards greater depth and scope.
He highlighted the steady progress in their mutually beneficial cooperation and the strong strategic coordination between the two nations. According to Wang, this collaboration has played a key role in safeguarding their shared interests and promoting global multipolarity.
China remains committed to working with Russia to fully implement the significant agreements made by their leaders and to further enhance bilateral relations in the coming year, he added.
Lavrov, in turn, expressed Russia’s willingness to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen practical cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, finance, and culture. He underscored Russia’s commitment to advancing the China-Russia strategic partnership.
He also noted that both countries support a multipolar world and act as stabilizing forces amid global uncertainties. Lavrov acknowledged China’s global initiatives, praised the strong mutual trust between the two nations, and affirmed Russia’s readiness to enhance coordination with China through frameworks such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations, and the G20.
Additionally, both sides exchanged views and aligned their positions on international and regional issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Middle East.
