Chinese Premier Li Qiang meets Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong in Beijing on Monday during Wong’s official visit to China.

Li highlighted that China and Singapore, as close neighbors and key partners, have continuously strengthened their traditional friendship and bilateral ties over the past 35 years since establishing diplomatic relations. He noted that the relationship has flourished under the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaders.

Li emphasized China’s commitment to preserving the spirit of mutual respect, trust, equality, and shared benefit in its relationship with Singapore. He called for sustained high-level exchanges, deeper strategic communication, and stronger political trust between the two nations.

He expressed China’s readiness to leverage existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms with Singapore, fully implement the joint Belt and Road Initiative cooperation plan, and bolster key projects. Li also called for expanding two-way trade and investment, exploring third-party market cooperation, and initiating new collaborations in digital economy, green technology, AI, smart cities, and marine energy.

Premier Li encouraged broader people-to-people exchanges, including in education, culture, tourism, and media. He advocated for open regionalism and genuine multilateralism, with a focus on promoting trade and investment liberalization and maintaining stable global supply chains.

Li added that China is prepared to work closely with ASEAN countries, including Singapore, to expedite the signing and implementation of the upgraded China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (Version 3.0), ensure the high-quality rollout of the RCEP agreement, and advance regional economic integration.

Prime Minister Wong expressed Singapore’s eagerness to maintain strong high-level engagement with China, deepen mutual trust, and push forward landmark projects like the Suzhou Industrial Park. He also voiced interest in exploring cooperation in emerging sectors such as the digital economy, green development, AI, and biomedicine, while enhancing third-party partnerships and cultural exchanges.

Wong reaffirmed Singapore’s confidence in China’s economic prospects and expressed willingness to coordinate closely with China on regional and multilateral platforms to support free trade and uphold the multilateral trading system.
