Chinese Premier hails recent progress in China-Australia ties as he met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the East Asia cooperation leaders’ meetings in Vientiane.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang remarked on Thursday that China-Australia relations have been advancing steadily, with practical cooperation progressing across various sectors and increased activity in subnational and people-to-people exchanges.
During a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the East Asia cooperation leaders’ meetings in Vientiane, Li expressed China’s desire to strengthen mutual understanding with Australia. He emphasized the goal of building a more stable and productive China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership to benefit both nations and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and development.
Li highlighted the mutually beneficial nature of China-Australia ties and stated that China is eager to share development opportunities with Australia. He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, green development, and scientific and technological innovation, while continuing to improve macroeconomic policy exchanges.
Li reiterated China’s commitment to deepening reforms, promoting high-level openness, and creating a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment. He welcomed more Australian businesses to invest in China and expressed hope that Australia would offer a fair and secure environment for Chinese enterprises to operate.
Li also called for expanding cultural, people-to-people, and personnel exchanges to solidify the foundation of bilateral relations. He emphasized that a peaceful and prosperous Asia-Pacific region is in the shared interests of both nations and other regional countries, and China is prepared to collaborate with Australia to safeguard stability in the region.
Prime Minister Albanese noted the positive and stable momentum of Australia-China relations, with increased dialogues in diplomatic, economic, and other fields. He expressed Australia’s willingness to deepen cooperation with China in areas such as trade, green economy, clean energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges to ensure the ongoing development of their bilateral ties.
Albanese reaffirmed Australia’s adherence to the one-China policy and its readiness to enhance coordination with China in multilateral arenas to jointly promote regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.
