China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin held talks on Monday with a visiting delegation from Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, as per an official statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of topics, focusing on security matters and avenues for strengthening cooperation between China and Balochistan.
Security concerns have intensified in the province, where separatist groups have targeted Chinese nationals, accusing Beijing of exploiting local mineral resources. China holds significant strategic interests in Balochistan, including a key port and several mining projects.
Amid growing security threats, China has urged Pakistan to permit Chinese security personnel to protect the thousands of Chinese workers stationed in the region, following multiple attacks on its nationals.
This security appeal intensified after an October bombing at Karachi airport that killed two Chinese engineers who were returning to resume work at a local power plant.
